Vis Periculum is a 2D platforming game in which the player must manipulate gravity in order to reach the goal. The player is able to manipulate the gravity to up, left, down or right as long as they are on the ground, or the equivalent depending on the gravity. If the player walks towards a wall then they will automatically move onto that wall and gravity will shift. There are also buttons that can be activated using crates that will unlock the exit for that level. The gravity manipulation gave the game some interesting elements but since it was created in the first year of of University it is relatively simple and has a lot of room for expansion.
The game was made using the XNA Framework and was coded in C# with the team consisting of three programmers and three designers. My main contribution to the project was the character control but I also drafted up the level designs and the gameplay mechanics for the original vision of the game. The level design and the gameplay elements within the level were originally designed to be a lot more diverse with levels being a lot larger and containing more features such as moving platforms, traps and enemies. Due to everyone on the team being relatively new to games development most of these ideas were not realised and although it was a functional, working game, it was much simpler than originally designed.
